(Edward Anthony Masen, Jr.)
Born June 20, 1901
Edward was the only child of Edward, Sr. and Elizabeth Masen. He was well-provided for as his father was a successful attorney. Sent to private schools, Edward excelled in his studies. With his music lessons, he became a talented pianist. As his father was often away on business, he and Edward were rather distant. However, Edward was everything to his mother. In 1918, Edward and his parents contracted the Spanish Influenza. His father was the first to die. When his mother lay dying, she begged Dr. Carlisle Cullen to save her son. Upon her death, Carlisle respected her wishes, and he changed the dying young man into a vampire.
Gaining his love and trust, Carlisle became Edward’s adoptive father. They formed a father-son relationship; one that Edward had never experienced with his own father. During their first few years alone, Carlisle noticed that Edward had the gift of reading minds. Edward would answer questions that Carlisle hadn’t asked aloud. Over the years, Edward perfected this gift.
A few years later, Carlisle gave Edward a new mother, Esme Evenson, who Carlisle saved after a failed suicide attempt. Esme loved and cared for Edward as if he were her own.
Soon after, Edward rebelled against their “vegetarian” ways of hunting, and he left Carlisle and Esme. Reading the minds of others, he would attack the worst members of society. He tried to justify his killings by thinking that he was serving justice to these monsters. Edward’s first victim was Esme’s abusive ex-husband, Charles Evenson. Regretting his actions, Edward returned home a few years later.
Eventually, Edward gained siblings – Rosalie, Emmett, Alice, and Jasper. The Cullens were a family in every sense of the word.
Edward’s family knew he was missing something in his life. They each had a mate, but he had no one. Rosalie was, in fact, meant to be a mate for Edward; however, they became only siblings. When the Cullens lived in Alaska, they met another family much like their own. Their leader, Tanya, showed affection toward Edward, but he did not return her interest. It wasn’t until Edward met Bella Swan that he had any real interest in anyone. She fascinated him because, unlike other humans, he couldn’t read her thoughts. After fighting a growing attraction for her, Edward realizes that he has fallen in love with Bella, and he finds that she loves him, too. The two encounter several obstacles along the way, but they eventually marry and have a daughter, Renesmee Carlie Cullen.
